"Honey is sweet, and so is knowledge, but knowledge is like the bee that made that sweet honey, you have to chase it with the pages of a book." The Bee Tree, by Patricia Polacco
Patricia Polacco is an author that I truly admire. Her stories have a way to make connections with adults and children, while sharing her own life experiences. The Bee Tree leads to a valuable discussion with children that books, as in life, are full of many experiences and it is important to take risks and explore yourself as a reader and a person. It is only through exploration that you will find a true passion for reading.
My next read-aloud, Pink and Say, by Polacco is a story I plan on incoporating within my next social studies unit on the Civil War. It is a book that was recommended by my media specialist. If it is anything like the other books that I've read by Polacco, than I am sure I will need a box of kleenex nearby!
